I've heard this scenario played out with many, many a High School student.

Of course, there is so much more to life after High School than grades, college, and a career but to get there? They need to get an "edge" and prepare sooner rather than later. It doesn't have to be intensive, but it does need to happen. Times have changed since we were their age. Our parenting skills need to evolve as well.

So - - - how to get them thinking about their future - now?

There IS a way to drive home the importance of life after high school, even as early as their freshman year.

We start with our main question: Is it time to visit colleges with your "nearly grown"? If you have a freshman in high school or older, this 9-minute podcast is for you.

These skills and growing lessons can STILL happen even at a college just across town that your child might not even be considering. Broadening their world and helping your child see past the daily "zoom" or the masks, or that social distancing even in the hallway at school is worth it. Well, about "zoom". If that's the only alternative available to you, there are colleges that have admissions set up to zoom with prospective students. The world, and parenting, is changing.

We know this season has so many challenges with it. Perhaps a college visit or two is just what the Dr ordered to shake things up, allow you to have special time with your teen, AND build benefits beyond the near-term works for your family. It's worth considering.
